Universal Design Sprint (UDS) extends an invitation to students from a myriad of specialisations to participate in a unique design challenge aimed at creating a more inclusive and accessible world. Whether you're a student of Design, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science or from any other background, your ideas, skills, and passion are needed here!

Teams are tasked with ideating and developing innovative solutions that could be software or an app, a physical product or structure, a prototype or even a campaign, all intended to enhance inclusivity and accessibility for individuals, regardless of their abilities.

With the mission of Universal Design Sprint being to broaden participants' design and technical horizons, we will be organising a series of workshops and panel talks on a variety of topics related to design, development, and inclusive solutions. Expert mentors and industry leaders will be on hand to guide participants, offer their professional insights, and provide feedback on the innovative concepts.

Come join us for this exciting event, where you'll have the chance to collaborate, create, and innovate while addressing real-world problems with your unique solutions.

The Universal Design Sprint (UDS) will transpire from the 22nd to the 24th of September 2023, inviting teams of 3-4 students to generate ground-breaking solutions in pursuit of creating a more inclusive and accessible world. Participants are asked to brainstorm and implement their inventive ideas under one of three topics:

Healthcare:

Example 1: 3D Printed Prosthetic

Example 2: Medical practice management systems

Public Space:

Example 1: Shopping centre building design

Example 2: Public transport systems

Learning and Education:

Example 1: Combating learning difficulties

Example 2: More accessible campus

We have included 2 example areas to explore under each topic, you are welcome to come up with your own ideas as long as it fits under the three major topics.

Note: as universal design promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, we encourage you to team up with people studying different disciplines and to think from a diverse range of perspectives such as software, engineering and architecture, when coming up with your design.
